Ketamine-Assisted
Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention
This 8-week group program is a combination of ketamine-assisted therapy (KAP) and Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) for problematic substance use. MBRP and ketamine share hypothesized neural mechanisms and have comparable effects on dependence-related vulnerabilities, such as reactivity and craving.
Mindfulness-Based Relapse Prevention (MBRP) is an 8-week program designed to help individuals who are struggling with substance misuse and other addictive behaviors. It combines elements of mindfulness practices with cognitive-behavioral techniques.
Ketamine-assisted therapy is a novel approach to treating complex, treatment-resistant problems such as problematic substance use. There are two proposed mechanisms of ketamine’s effectiveness - its neurobiological function as a psychoplastogen (a drug that increases neuroplasticity, allowing for old habitually reinforced neural networks to be rewired) and the psychological impact of the ketamine experience (insight, ease, novel experience of self, reorientation of values). Both of these mechanisms are enhanced by the transformative nature of the therapeutic relationship and the healing power of group cohesion, which together provide a safe, connected space to explore vulnerability, reinforce new insights, and support meaningful behavior change.
Research shows that ketamine promotes abstinence, reduces cravings, and prevents or delays relapse. Furthermore, Ketamine may work to provide an experiential stepping-stone toward deepening mindfulness training. We see mindfulness as the behavioral counterpart in sustaining the effects of ketamine and promoting longer-lasting changes such as reduction in reactivity and increase in perspective for decision making. Our group therapy creates a supportive and healing community; community and connection have been an essential part of psychedelic healing work for thousands of years, with good reason.
Our program will be supported by psychedelic preparation and integration, some 1:1 work, mindfulness training, parts work, trauma & attachment oriented therapy, psychodynamic therapy, use of somatic experiencing, art, poetry, and other exercises or prompts that build trust and connection.
In-person dosing sessions will be held in a supportive environment with two highly experienced KAP therapists in Greenwich, CT from 5 pm-8 pm. Ketamine integration sessions are held via Zoom from 7 pm-8.30 pm.
Includes
27 hours of mindfulness training and integration
Three 3-hour dosing sessions, 2 hours of preparation, and 6 hours of integration.
A 15-minute intake is required as part of the application process.
