Psychedelic Preparation and Integration
Psychedelic experiences can be meaningful, confusing, difficult, disappointing, transformative, destabilizing, or some combination of these.
I provide preparation and integration support for people considering or navigating psychedelic experiences in a variety of legal and clinical contexts.
Preparation
Preparation is an opportunity to think carefully about what you are approaching before the experience occurs.
This may include exploring:
Hopes, fears, and expectations
Intentions without turning them into demands on the experience
Relevant psychological history
Patterns that may become more visible in an altered state
Relationships and sources of support
Harm reduction and risk considerations
How to approach uncertainty, difficult material, or unexpected experiences
What may be needed after the experience
Preparation is not about scripting what should happen. It is about creating conditions for greater awareness, flexibility, and informed choice.
Integration
Integration offers space to explore what happened and what significance, if any, the experience may have in your life.
This can include experiences that felt beautiful or meaningful, but also those that were frightening, confusing, disappointing, or difficult to make sense of.
I do not approach integration as a process of finding the hidden lesson in every psychedelic experience. Sometimes the work is understanding an experience. Sometimes it is questioning an interpretation that initially felt certain. Sometimes it is attending to emotional or relational material that has become more visible. And sometimes it is simply allowing an unusual experience to become one part of a much larger life.
My approach is informed by psychotherapy, harm reduction, trauma treatment, mindfulness, somatic approaches, and extensive clinical experience with altered states.
